In Uttarakhand, which is also known as Devbhoomi or the Land of Gods, there are lots of temples, and people who love praying come here all the time.
One of the main religious trips that these devotees go on is called the Char Dham Yatra.
It’s like a special journey where they visit four important religious places.

About Char Dham Yatra
The Char Dham Yatra, which means a journey to four holy places, takes you to four sacred sites in the Himalayas.
Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are the four sacred sites of Char Dham.
In Hindi, ‘char’ means four, and ‘dham’ refers to religious places.
So, the Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage to these four special places high up in the mountains.
The high-altitude shrines up in the mountains close for about six months each year.
They open up again when summer rolls around, usually in April or May, and close down as winter starts creeping in, which is around October or November.
People believe that when you embark on the Char Dham Yatra, it’s best to go in a clockwise direction.
So, the pilgrimage begins from Yamunotri, then goes to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally reaches Badrinath.
You can travel by road or by air (helicopter services are available).
Some people also choose to do a Do Dham Yatra, visiting two shrines – Kedarnath and Badrinath – along the way.
The Yamunotri temple, nestled in a narrow gorge near the beginning of River Yamuna (the second most holy river in India after River Ganga) in Uttarkashi district, is devoted to Goddess Yamuna.
This area is part of the Char Dham Yatra, a pilgrimage to four sacred Hindu sites.
Uttarkashi district is also where you’ll find Gangotri, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, the most sacred river in India.
In the Rudraprayag district, you’ll find Kedarnath, a place devoted to Lord Shiva.
And in the same district, there’s Badrinath, where you’ll find the revered Badrinarayan Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The journey of Char Dham Yatra, which includes these sacred places, is both spiritual and challenging but truly enriches the soul!
